16, 2005 — The second annual KENNER® and NITRO® Bay Boats Owners Tournament drew a crowd of over 600 to Conn Brown Harbor Park in Aransas Pass, Texas.
Despite
the rainy conditions, families packed the tents in hopes that their fishing team would win the tournament offered cash and prizes, plus the grand prize of a KENNER 180 VX boat, motor and trailer.
In
addition to the tournament, those attending had the opportunity to attend a variety of educational seminars by Captain Bill Sheka and other local guides. The sessions focused on the proper techniques and appropriate equipment for fishing the Aransas Pass area.
As
with any tournament, sponsor support is needed. Sponsoring this year's tournament was WayPoint Marine of San Antonio and Austin, Chris's Marine of Arkansas Pass and BASS PRO SHOPS® store located in Katy. Co- sponsoring the event was the Aransas Pass Chamber of Commerce.
Tournament Winners
The one-day tournament hosted 194 fishing teams and kicked off at first light on Saturday, September 10. Weigh-in was held at 3 p.m. Teams consisted of one to four members who fished from one team member-owned KENNER or NITRO Bay Boat.
Cash
prizes ranged from $500 to $2,250 for the first through fifth place heaviest stringer. Winnings were given to the team captain to be distributed among the team as desired. At the end of the tournament, the winner standings were as follows:

Gonzalez team - first place for an earning $2,250
- Mason
Moseley team - second place, earning $1,500
- Grant
Hesselfine team - third place, e earning $1,000
- Kevin
Akin team - fourth place, earning $750
- Scott
Mabry team - fifth place, earning $500
Grand Prize Winner
Every
paid contestant in the tournament was eligible to win the grand prize KENNER 180 VX boat, motor and trailer. From this pool, 10 people were selected as finalist. The finalists were put in the prize boat to await the final drawing. As names were drawn, contestants left the boat. The last person in the boat whose name was not drawn was San Antonio, Texas.
Annual Event
According
to Steve Mason, product development manager for TRACKER® Marine Group, this will be an annual event for KENNER and NITRO Bay Boat owners. "We're very pleased that registration has increased 35 percent in the second year of the tournament. We enjoy putting this event on for the owners of our boats. Their loyalty to our brands is very much appreciated," said Mason.
Mason
also said that an exact date for the 2006 tournament has not been set, but it will probably remain in the mid- to late September timeframe. Unless directed by participant feedback, the event will likely be held again in Aransas Pass, Texas.
